Why does the supplier need my machine brand and model?

The belt must fit the machine before any quality discussion starts. Finished width and circumference tolerances, the contact wheel or platen arrangement and tracking behavior all depend on the machine, so the same nominal belt size can perform differently on different grinders.

What is the difference between open coat and closed coat belts?

Closed coat belts have full grain coverage and cut faster on metal, while open coat belts leave space between grains so swarf can clear, which reduces loading on wood, paint and soft materials. The RFQ should state the coat type together with the grain and backing.

What usually causes sanding belt joint failure?

Most joint failures trace back to a joint type that does not match the application, excessive heat at the splice, incorrect storage or a belt run against its marked direction. Recording the joint type, overlap direction and thickness in the specification makes the supplier responsible for a defined construction.
